Where Did All The Construction Workers Go

Construction companies are having a difficult time finding workers these days, and you would think that an impossible scenario given that between 2006 and 2011 2.3 million construction jobs were lost, and owners today are wondering where did all the workers go? The challenge to find skilled workers is probably due to the recession as construction workers just could not hang on and moved on to other industries such as the oil and gas industries or they became truck drivers, and some of the older workers simply retired.

Construction companies are now facing a very competitive hiring market where they must offer bonuses, incentives, and higher then usual pay to secure skilled labor which cuts into profits. Companies are also looking to younger workers and are more willing to train and offer competitive wages now then they were post-recession.
