Tampa Airport Construction Crew Starts Day With Exercise

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics report more then 150,000 construction site injuries occur each year, so for the largest employer of construction workers in Florida, Skanska USA, work site safety is very important, and the daily group exercise session is an example of steps the company takes to ensure this safety. Every day employees in USA and abroad, including management and administration positions, start their shifts with stretching and easy movements to help them prepare for the day. So far, Skanska USA has had a 66% decrease in back injuries and a 73% decrease in soft tissue injuries.

The program is not only finding success in decreasing physical injuries, but it is also turning into a great team build for workers, as well as an opportunity for management to recognize achievements and discuss potentially dangerous working conditions. The success is so apparent that even sub-contractors are picking up on the program and applying it to their workforce.
