Offshore Safety-critical Maintenance Backlog ‘Growing’

Since 2009, Oil and Gas companies in the UK have been reporting to Industry body Oil and Gas UK, and this year the report shows a growing trend of safety-critical maintenance backlog. While that may seem like troublesome news, in realty it is not with the organization stating that deferred maintenance is only considered after a complete risk assessment of the situation in question.

In fact, most numbers in the report point to improved safety and the decrease of offshore oil and gas leaks. The offshore industry has a lower personal injury rate then other industries including construction and transportation. Most influential people in the UK oil and gas industries feel that the industry is preforming over-all very well, but the maintenance backlog does need to be attended too.
